Syzygium polyanthum Protects Against Hypertensive Induced Kidney Damage in Spontaneous Hypertensive Rat Model

Syzygium polyanthum is traditionally used as anti-hypertensive. However, the nephroprotective effects of S. against hypertensive induced chronic kidney disease remains to be done. This study was conducted determine antioxidant properties and aqueous extract (AESP) in spontaneous rat model (SHR). The phytochemical constituent identified using screening HPLC methods. vitro activities were determined by DPPH radical scavenging Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assays. Fifty male SHR equally divided into 5 groups, (n=10/group); Untreated-SHR, 20 mg/kg Losartan-treated SHR, 1500 AESP treated 1750 2250 while 10 Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) control. Rats sacrificed after 12 weeks experiment. phytochemicals include phenolics, flavonoids alkaloids identified. has high activity shown normalised systolic blood pressure significantly improved renal function. also reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels serum compared untreated-SHR group. Histology damage supplementation AESP. Conclusively, could alleviate through its properties.
